Big South Recap

Hi All,

I hope everyone's spring break is going well and everyone is taking some time to regroup and relax! When leaving the gym on Sunday, I asked the girls to take the week to relax, regroup, let any frusterations go, and come back ready to work hard on Monday.

From a coaches perspective, it seems as if our team is in a mid season slump. Everyone can be expected to have ‘bad days’. However, these are not slumps. Performance slumps are defined as unexplained drops in performance that go beyond normal performance fluctuations. I hope that this week of Spring Break can refocus everyone and that when we meet again, we can all bring positivity, hard work, and a sense of urgency to the court. I know everyone wants this team to be successful and I continously tell the girls how much potential this team has.

Pros of Big South:

- We tried running a new defense. The girls did a pretty good job. There was a little bit of confusion, but we will continue to work on it.

- We had a big block- the girls were closing the block and transitioning well.

- We were running offensive plays that we haven't run much in matches- a lot of 3's and slides and we had a kill from an outside running a 2 :)

- The girls had moments where everything was connecting as a team- where we would make a great first pass and execute on the 3rd ball. I want the girls to remember the moments when they were succesful and take that feeling with them moving forward

- Our Serve Recieve was very consistent

Cons of Big South:

- Attitudes: I saw and heard negativaty. Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you'll start having positive results. It is critical to the success of our team that moving forward, we change our attitudes from negative to positive. If there is anything Coach A'sheena or myself can do to help you, please let us know.

Remember: Every day we have plenty of opportunities to get angry, stressed or offended. But what you're doing when you indulge these negative emotions is giving something outside yourself power over your happiness. You can choose to not let little things upset you.

- We made a lot of errors: we have to control the aspects of the game that we can control. Execution is a necessity.

-We missed a lot more serves than we normally do- I loved that everyone was trying to be aggressive though!

I am looking forward to getting back in the gym, learning from our past performances and mistakes, and finishing out the season strong.
