2017 Tournament Recaps

SRVA REGIONALS (4/22-4/23)

Teams

Tournament Recap

12 Tom

The volleycanos played against some familiar rivals this weekend and based on the level of play, it was clear that we had improved since we had seen them last.  On Sunday morning, they lost a close match where they played their best vollebyall of the weekend.  Look for us next at the SummerBlast on May 13 in Sevierville, TN.

12 Chad

What does 3 titles, 1 medal, and 2 T-shirts sound like? That would be the sound of the awesome Team intensity coming into the SRVA regional championships.
I have seen this team play well in the past but this weekend was nothing short of a superior, and at times, dominating perfomances against some very good and well improved teams.
Saturday, while competitive, the team made things look easy in not dropping a set landing us the #3 seed in bracket play.
On Sunday we continued our success. We dispatched Mid Tn. VB 12-2 in the first round. We then faced Tsunami Kyle in the second round, a team we had faced on 3 previous occasions. The players let their guard down but laughed at a 12 - 22 deficit late in the first set to go on a 13-1 run and take it before rolling the second and on to the next round. Then came the match with Rival A5 12-4's in the Semi's. A team that beat us at big south, but on this day we had other plans. We again got down 5 - 10 and then 12 - 18 before storming back and taking the first set. The second was no competition as Irene and Maya combined for 20 service aces to end A5's season.

For our 6th tournament in a row we found ourselves in the championship finals against a Madison County VB 12-1 team that we had never played before. Every single point was extremely competitive but it was a case of us hitting 5 great shots and they hit 6 which lead to a close loss in the first set. The second set the other team found their serving rythm and we could never get anything going again. In the end we ended up with a silver medal but there was no sadness on this team as to them, it felt just as good as gold.
We added another medal and T-shirt, along with or names being cemented in the records books for all time as 2017 Silver medalist in 12-club. Great, fantastic job by all players. Had the parents been able to continue to nationals and we played in the power division, I have no doubt we would have grabbed a bid, and that says alot about this team. The biggest observation I made was that many other teams were running the most basic offense and defenses including the eventual champion while we were running a 5-1 offense and perimeter defense. While many of those teams won many games this weekend, it is the players on this team who will benefit in the future when they go back to their school programs with a mountain of advanced knowledge that not many at this age group really have.
Through it all, this team and these results should serve as an inspiration to any true beginning player who walks on the court. There is unlimited potential that can be achieved with effort, hard work, and dedication. Believe in that principle and you can do great things that will be remember for a lifetime.
We closed the book on this season but these players have opened a new one with a very bright future. Watch out for these players from Team Intensity next year!!!

12 Avery

We have seen so much improvement throughout the season in general and even throughout the weekend! We are so proud of how far the girls have come. We fought hard against a lot of good teams, and the girls should be so proud of how they played. We had so much fun watching everyone grow this season and can't wait to see where they go in the future!

13 Jessica

FUSION IS GOING TO NATIONALS! We are so incredibly proud of the girls! Fusion went 2-0 on Saturday without much trouble. After two matches on Sunday they made it to the semi finals in the Gold bracket. The girls play A5 13-2 and won in three sets. They played the best they have ever played and scored a bid to nationals. Fusion took second place in regionals after a tough mental game in the finals. We are extremely proud of the hard work and dedication to the team, season, and future tournaments.

13 Kasey

Very proud of the girls and how they preformed. Saturday was off to a great start, and even with only 1 win that day the girls kept their heads up and didn't allow themselves to get down. Sunday the girls battled for the first win and earned it with their hard work. They almost pulled out another win the second game, but the other team just got to us when it came to small skills (tipping mainly). Very proud of how the girls played though, they left with their heads held high and spirits even higher as well.

15 Ally

This was by far was our best tournament yet as playing together as a team.  We never gave up in this tournament and played the best we could in every game even though we lost some.  On the second day we fought hard in the semi-finals but fell short in the third set.  Overall I was very pleased with the way we played and it was a good way to end the season!

15 Jim

Red Thunder's hard work during practices paid off with a combination of good serving, strong hitting including running multiple "1's", good backrow passing, and the best blocking results of the season. We started strong on Day 2 winning matches 1 & 2; and making to the semi-finals of the Bronze Division before losing a tough match in the 3rd set 16-18. This group of players were fantastic to coach :-)

15 Kelly

Flash played well on Day 1 but still couldn't push over and get a win that should have been theirs, finishing pool play 1-2. Instead of being motivated and excited for finishing the season strong, some of the team was more deflated things were coming to an end and were perhaps too tired of the season to push through. Day 2 was similar. In the first match, after winning the first set with points in the 30s, and losing the second set, coaches made a line-up change in the third set based on the rythm & flow of the team at that time. They pulled it out for a much needed win. The line-up went back to normal for the Quarter Finals so they could go forward or go out as a team. They played well but ended thier run in the Quarter Finals, placing 49th out of 88 teams. I am proud of how this team played together and supported each other no matter the outcome. They are a great group of girls and I had a fun season coaching them!

16 Lindsay

Elite did a great job playing consistently on the first day against lower teams.  We played our game instead of dropping down to their level, which is an imporvement from past tournaments!  We lost first round on Sunday in a heartbreaking 3 set match.  Elite has had a great season so far and we are exciting for our remaining two tournaments!

17 A'Sheana

It feels like just yesterday we were standing on the court for the first time at LBS. As I reflect upon the beginning of the season I look at how much the girls have grown, individually and as a team. Of course there is still room for improvement, which I'm sure they all will be successful at, I am proud of all the girls for being there and fighting until the end! Thank you for this season, I hope everyone is successful in their future endeavors!

18s USAV NATIONALS (4/21-4/23)

Tournament Recap

18 Karlyn

18 Karlyn ended our season with a trip to Nationals in Dallas! We started off the weekend with a great win against a team that would eventually finish 2nd in gold and faced some really tough teams throughout the tournament. Karlyn, myself, and the rest of the coaches that worked with the team over the course of the season couldn't be more proud of the girls and we wish them success as they continue their volleyball careers in both college and through their senior year of high school.

EMPIRE CITY (4/15)

Teams Tournament Recap
16 Lindsay Elite came out strong against the 17s teams at Empire City.  Elite pushed through games in pool play to score a lot of points against teams, to give us a bye leading into the Gold bracket.  We played Crossfire 16-1, who we have a 1-1 record against.  We beat them in 3 to move on to face Tsunami Columbus in the finals.  We fought hard, but lost in 3 to finish 2nd!  Go Elite!!

KUDZU KLASSIC (4/8-4/9)

Teams Tournament Recap
11 Cathy The Volleynadoes played amazing at Kudzu Klassik.  We had some tough games on Saturday with 0-6 set record.  However, the scoreboard on Saturday did not reflect how the girls played.  We had some great first ball passes to sets and down balls.   Sunday the girls came out and played their hearts out to win the Championship.  They have all been working hard in practice and it showed this weekend.  We won our first match Sunday 2-0 (one of the sets 25-0).  Kaitlyn Hite served all 25 points!!!!  The morning win put us in the championship match with A-5 10-1.  They beat us earlier in the season but our girls played with teamwork and determination to pull the win 2-0.  We accomplished our team goal of winning a tournament.
12 Tom The Volleycanos played up with the 13s this weekend.  Our same fun group with a taller net and heavier ball. We had some tough competition on Saturday but kept it together on Sunday for a fifth place finish.

BIG SOUTH QUALIFIER (3/31-4/2)

Teams Tournament Recap
12 Tom The Volleynados had some tough matches against strong competition on Friday and Saturday of their first Big South.  Our goal for Sudnay was to stick together win or lose, support each other by staying positive and play good volleyball.  This recipe worked for us as we won our flight on Sunday.   Look for us next week to continue with this winning attitude as we play up at 13s for the Kudzu Klassic.
12 Chad Team intensity walked into the tournament were the only expectation to have fun and enjoy the competition. That we certainly saw as we got put into a championship pool with the team ( Top Select ) that ended up in the finals of the division. We faced some tough opponents who only made us better players. We made it all the way to the finals of Flight 3. Factoring in this weekend, on Sundays or in Bracket play we are an impressive 13 - 3 and those losses coming at the hands of teams ranked above us. We have played in or won the finals of every tournament. This is a heck of a team. I think the best thing or recap from this weekend was were I often ignored the scoreboard and simply watched the team play. To think that most if not all these players are almost complete beginners to club volleyball, to watch the libero picking up the set, to our defense covering tips, and the high level of movement in transition is just great. We couldn't be prouder of this team to see how far we have come. We didn't stand on the championship podium this time, but I truly feel these players will be doing just that in future seasons. This experience has given them great knowledge for future seasons and has set us up to be the favorites going into the regional Championships.
15 Jim Red Thunder adapted well not having 2 front row players; and played their best defensively. Back row coverage was very good and blocking was by far the best of the season. We finished well above our original seeding, and look to have a strong finish at SRVA Regionals.
16 Lindsay Elite played the best volleyball they have all season at Big South.  They were playing scrappy and giving 110% when they were on the court.  The girls are starting to fix the small things, which go a long way in the game.  Great weekend!
18 Karlyn 18 Elite had a strong showing in the challenge division over the weekend. They went 6-0 in pool play only dropping 1 set the first two days. Sunday brought a tough challenge in the gold bracket and we fell short in 2 sets. The girls ended up finishing tied for 9th out of 86 teams.

PRE BSQ (3/25)

Teams

Tournament Recap

14 Alyssa

We once again played great during pool play and went undefeated. My middles both were able to run a 1 ball during a match, so that was super exciting! We still continue to struggle is making smart decisions during cross-over matches. They kind of feel apart in the semi-final game in gold. We still need a lot to work on, but really impressed with how much their skills have developed since the beginning of the season.

14 Danielle

This tournament was one of the best for the girls in terms of teamwork, moving to the ball, and getting our serves in! We played up. most of the day, and made it the farthest we have ever been in a tournament, yet there was still some communication errors on the court. The girls are finally realizing that they won't be injured if they hit the floor and we had a good time throughout the day and anyone could see the improved skills the girls have accomplished!

15 Kelly

The team was ready to play and fought hard all day. They had a chance to really work on their game in a couple matches and turned on the intensity and aggressiveness. They were challenged in the semis and couldn’t pull it out, losing a tough 3rd set. We were missing a strong right side player that may have put us over the edge to win Gold, but they did great filling her gap and really had a good tournament.

15 Chase

We finally made it out of pool play and into a bracket! Oddly enough, our best play was during our first and last games. We struggled to maintain a high level of play throughout each game. However, our team attitude remained positive most of the day and the girls seem to have finally come together. Unfortunately, we lost to Rachael's team in the Bronze bracket final, but at least we're keeping it in the Cobb family.

17 A'Sheana

We started the tournament off strong, and won our first match of the day. Our next match we faced a harder team, and played well, but could not finish. From then on we got one more win for the day which took us to the championship playoffs, and we faced a strong team fought hard and were not able to win. Overall, we played well, we just had a few hiccups that prevented us from going all the way.

BATTLE GROUND EXPLOSION (3/25-3/26)

Team

Tournament Recap

13 Kasey

This tournament the girls really worked on serving and working as a team.  We only had 7 missed serves on Saturday and worked on placing the ball which the girls did really well.  On Sunday, the girls really showed up to play some volleyball.  We went 2-0 on Sunday.  We now know what we need to improve on and we can only go up from here.  GO FUSION!!!

MARCH MADNESS (3/18)

Teams

Tournament Recap

12 Avery

This weekend, we placed second in the silver bracket, and we saw the best volleyball we have ever seen from the girls in our first game of the day. We also hit the important and very exciting milestone of every girl on the team getting her serve over. We are looking forward to seeing even more growth and improvement in the future!

13 Miranda

This weekend the girls won silver bracket! They played awesome all day, and they had the most energy we had seen all season. They hit more balls, and played more offensively than we had seen them play. We even had a few girls get blacks this weekend. We did have some trouble getting consistent serves throughout the day, but they made up for it by passing well and hitting more. Overall, it was a great tournament, and Izzy and I can't wait to see the improvement next weekend.

SOUTHERN YOUTH FESTIVAL (3/18-3/19)

Team

Tournament Recap

12 Chad

Team Intensity after winning its previous 2 tournament contests at 12- Club we resolved to play 12-power for the first time in a division with the top 16 teams in the region in what could only be described as a preview for the regionals.
We didn't back down however, we achieved our goal of defeating NAVC and P31. Two teams we resolved to overcome should we face them and did so. We went 3-3 on the weekend and lost in the finals of the silver bracket. Had this actually been the true SRVA regional power division we would have finished 10th in the region. Not bad for a roster with only 1 player who had club experience and many who had never touched a volleyball before this year. Great defense, and we showed a good power stroke with our offense. All around, we walk away very proud of this teams performance.

MUSIC CITY (3/18-3/19)

Team

Tournament Recap

13 Jessica

Fusion had an amazing tournament weekend. The girls placed 4th in 14 Open Gold. They went 3-0 on Saturday and even began running plays consistently. Fusion works hard, never gives up, and has drastically improved from the first tournament. Big South is just one week away and Fusion is ready to fight hard to earn a bid to Nationals! So proud of this team!

13 Jonathan

The competition from the older teams presented quite a challenge, but we made the adjustments needed (mentally and strategically) and we hung in there. On day two, we went undefeated and won the bronze bracket. Way to go STORM!

14 Dea

The Tigers faced great competition at the Music City tournament this past weekend. Despite multiple injuries over the two days, the girls played hard and kept mentally tough in the face of intense matches - at one point going on an eight-point run after being down by 6, eventually ending the set 23-25, against a very tough Extreme team. Many of the girls had to adjust and play positions they had never played before, but they faced the challenge head on and with a confidence not yet seen this season (one of our defensive players had to play front row and even blocked a ball)! Overall, despite not finishing the way we had hoped, the girls did not let the mental aspect of the game affect their playing on the court and grew as a team throughout the tournament. We look forward to similarly challenging ourselves at Big South!

15 Ally

Blackice has for the 5th time now made it into the gold Bracket which is one of our main goals for each tournament and we have succeeded with that in every tournament so far.  On the first day of the tournament we kind of just got by and didn't play our best, but still good enough to get us in the gold.  On the second day, we played the Number one team in the tournament for the second time and it was the best Coach Rachel and I saw them play as a team and it was point to point the whole match.  This match was definitely one of our best moments as a team together in our season!

15 Jim

Red Thunder was moved from the Club Division to the Open Division after only 7 Club teams registered. The girls weren't intimidated and finished with a 2 - 3 match record, and 2nd in the Bronze Division.

18 Karlyn

18 Elite played their first open tournament in Nashville this weekend and while our record may have not reflected it, the girls played very well and showed that they can step up to the challenge. We had to play some different rotations due to missing players but Karlyn, Morgan, and I were very proud of all the girls giving their best with each and every set. This was great preparation for nationals in Dallas and we are looking forward to bringing it at Big South!

PUSH1 BLOCK PARTY (3/11)

Team

Tournament Recap

14 Danielle

During our tournament, we were faced with borrowing a setter, two girls out sick, two out of town, and another having to be pulled from the team. The girls seemed to lose focus when playing teams that they knew were not at their level, but they were strong when the higher competive teams challenged them. Overall, the girls did a great job at being ale to adapt to new positions on the court and we finally had the opportunity to let some girls serve who ever have before, and they were able to get the ball over the net! The girls tend to lose confidence, but overall we worked well together and managed to improve thoughout the day!

14 Daniel

EVERY girl on this team has improved individually, and the team has really grown together and DRASTICALLY improved as a whole. We've gone from winning 1 set at Lil Big South, to breaking pool at Atlanta Classic, to finishing 2nd at Push1 Block Party... by 1 point!

PEACHTREE CLASSIC (3/11-3/12)

Teams

Tournament Recap

13 Keri

This weekend we faced some tough teams. We love that the girls were in every single game. Nothing was just a blow out. We love that some players adapted well to playing a new position this past weekend. The girls served very aggressive this weekend and really looked for the holes. The team who finished 2nd in the tournement we played our best watch against all weekend even tho we did not pull out the win. The girls really looked good against A5 13-4 and it was a  very competative game.

14 Megan

I love how at each tournament I am seeing a lot of growth. At this tournament in particular, I saw huge growth in our defense and serve recieve. We had done a lot of work on our defense staying at base and reading the ball and reacting. They did a great job of applying what we had practiced in the matches this weekend. This was also the first tournament with our new lineup. I was pleased with how the girls adjusted and played together. However, at the upcoming practices we will be working a lot on our offense and breaking down armswings again. Our biggest struggle at Peachtree Classic was playing our teams level of volleyball and not playing at the other team's level. We made games harder than they needed to be by starting slow. My goal for the team in Nashville  is to start strong, play at a fast pace, and to always be aggressive. Overall, it was a good weekend, finishing 3rd in Gold!

14 Alyssa

Overall this was a good weekend of volleyball for us. We played a lot of teams that really challenged us and in return we played some of the best volleyball we have played. We had big improvements with attitudes and confidence. We still struggled with finishing strong. I'm so excited for the rest of the season because this weekend proved that we can really compete with teams that are ranked higher than us, and we never gave up.

14 Edward

STEEL showed much improvement during the Peachtree Classic. They were noticeably more poised and played with aggression and confidence. We went 2-1 on day one to place us in the gold bracket! A highlight from the day was losing set one to Tsunami and fighting back to win the second and third. Day two was highlighted by an interesting play. An opponent was able to continue a rally with a KICK, however we still won the point by staying composed and setting up our offense for the score. Great work STEEL!

17 A'Sheana

Day 1 we started off playing well, we didn't have that usual first match struggle. We finished day 1 1-2 and got our win as our last match!  Day two we went up against the team we won against the day before, but could not get our rythm against them. We have some things to work on before our next tournament.

COLORADO CROSSROADS (3/10-3/11)

Team

Tournament Recap

16 Katie

Went 2-1 the first day, 1-2 the next, and lost first round on the third. This weekend we dealt with the mental sid eof the game. Trying to find the love for the game and why they want to play will be the focus for the next few weeks. Skills are there, execution needs to be fixed.

16 Lindsay

Elite had a tough first day going 1-2.  We saw great teams and learned from our mistakes.  Elite turned it around on Day 2 going 3-0 with no games going 3 sets.  Elite focused on playing our game and it paid off.  We kept our foot on the gas pedal!  On Day 3, Elite made it to the semifinals and lost.  Overall, it was a great weekend for volleyball and team bonding.  Go Elite!

17 Michael

Top Notch had a good first day of the tournament going 2-1 for the day. We knew going into the 2nd day that the competition was going to be much stronger than the 1st day. Unfortunately, Top Notch went 1-2 on the 2nd which landed the team in Bronze then eventually lost 1st round in Bronze against Miami Elite. Although, we didn't end up where we wanted to feel like the girls saw great competition which will help us going into Big South!

DOGWOOD DONNYBROOK (3/4-3/5)

Team

Tournament Recap

12 Chad

Team Intensity 12-2 Chad faced some stiff competition in bracket play and managed to come out on top with their second championship in a row. When things looked the worst, that was when we performed best. We lost the first set of each our 3 bracket play wins but came back in the second every time. In the third sets we had to come back from being down 0-3 to Crossfire, 5-10 to GA5, and 0-5 to A5. I think we took the next step in our defense and our offense made some great strides. The biggest compliment I have for the team is that they didn't have to play power or harder, they just played smart. When the pass wasn't perfect or the play was broken we kept sending the ball over and then hustling on defense. I found this often threw the other teams off because we kept frustrating them by extending rallies, which forced them to take the tougher low percentage shots causing them to make unforced errors. Taking down a very competitive and highly skilled, A5 12-3's team was the biggest accomplishment. The team is now on an 12 match win streak, haven't lost since Jan 29th, and is a period that includes 1 bronze medal and 2 Tournament crowns.

14 Dea

The Tigers fought hard during our most recent tournament at Dogwood Donnybrook. With two players out injured, we invited Sarah from 14 Megan to play with us for the weekend. We faced a tough A5 South team first thing in the morning and struggled through the first set. We came out strong in the second set, keeping it close throughout the game but eventually finishing 20-25. Up next was Atlanta Extreme, winning an exciting set 26-24, but then dropping the hard-fought second and third sets. Our last game of the day was again Aftershock who we kept on their toes throughout the match, staying positive and aggressive with our attacks, in the end losing 23-25 and 25-15. The Tigers came out strong in Silver Bracket play the next day, continually playing at our best, defeating Crossfire 25-9, 25-16. Continuing our pursuit of winning our bracket, we defeated Alliance 14-3 25-6, 25-13. Making it to the championship game, we faced Tsunami 14-Ted, a team we remembered playing at Lil Big South. Keeping this in mind, and holding on to our energy from our last game, we fought on to win the Silver Bracket 25-20, 25-19. We are very proud of 14 Tigers for their perseverance and positive attitude! We cannot wait to see what we can accomplish at our next tournament in Nashville, Tennessee!

15 Jim

Red Thunder played well and were very competitive in Pool Play. Won the Silver Bracket Quarter Finals but were a little slow adapting to a very good "tipping" team in the Semi's losing in 3 sets. Looking to continue to improve at Nashville.

BLOCK & ROLL (3/4)

Team

Tournament Recap

13 Kasey

The girls played great at the Block and Roll.  They played hard and worked on the small things like talking and backing each other up when passing.  I was impressed with how hard the girls played as well, they gave all they had in one day.  We played Atlanta Extreme 12-1 that had been to nationals before and I have never seen my team come together so well before.  We ended up coming in 2nd overall.  The girls did great and I was impressed with how well they played.

BEAST OF THE SOUTHEAST (2/25-2/26)

Team

Tournament Recap

12 Tom

It was a loud and cramped weekend for the volleycanoes at the Beast of the Southeast tournament.  While we didn't perform as we wanted to, some of our best play was late on Sunday.  Look for us to continue with that with momentume as we head to Nashville in a few weeks.

13 Jessica

Once again our girls did a phenominal job by playing up and keeping teams down. Girls has a perfect weekend and finished 2nd in the tournament. The girls capitalized on a strong serving game and a strong defensive game. Offense kept the game in play and worked hard on blocking. In our first set, our girls scored 16 points against a5's 13-1s, an impressive feat that not many teams have ever done. We are excited for this coming weekend in Nashville.

17 Michael

Beast of the Southeast is a great tournament that provides our athletes with amazing competition and exposure to top level college coaches. We must say that we are happy with the way our team competed this weekend. 17 Top Notch went 1-2 the first day. We were right in the mix for all the games. Sunday 17 Top Notch went 3-0 on the day with a statement win over NAVC. We go back in the gym to focus on developing consistency, developing more shots, and focusing on relentless defense. We have three practices this week and will begin player mid-year meetings next week. Keep the faith and trust the process.

ATLANTA CLASSIC (2/18-2/19)

Team

Tournament Recap

14 Danielle

Even though we were short in numbers, the girls worked really well together and were very grateful for Mary Margret from 14-3 Dea's team for stepping in and playing with us. The girls were doing well with getting to every ball, getting their serve over, and being aggressive at the new. Overall, we are very proud of them for making it to the semi-finals and happy with how they represented themselves as a team.

MOUNT SPIKEMORE (2/18-2/19)

Team

Tournament Recap

13 Keri

This weekend started off a little shaky for us. Saturday, we took ever team to 3 games coming up a little short in town of the matches. Sunday, we had to play our 13 Jonathan. The girls played right with them most of the game coming up short at the end. We will focus of serving again for the next tournament. We will also strive to stay ahead in games once we are ahead. We will focus of keeping the play at our level and not dropping down. Let's go Blitz!

13 Jonathan

STORM played some great volleyball this tournament. We had the opportunity to rematch the Lanier 13-1 team after losing to them in the finals from the last tournament; we went 25-23, 25-23, taking a loss, but it was a fantastic match the whole way through. The girls really battled, exercising their mental toughness. In the end, they took 1st in the Silver bracket. Go STORM!

14 Alyssa

We had another good weekend. We played solid and were able to comeback from a few different deficits. I was really proud of the girls for playing hard all weekend even though we had a few of our girls missing. I saw a few girls really step up. They main thing that I would say my team needs to work on is our mental game and finishing strong.

14 Edward

Congratulation to STEEL for making it to the Gold Bracket! They showed a lot of heart this tournament by adjusting to a new line up, playing down a player, and dealing with injuries. We also enjoyed playing our best volleyball of the tournament against our fellow CAJ companions, 14-Alyssa. It is hard to believe we are at the halfway point of the season. Let’s finish strong STEEL!

16 Crystal

I am very proud of the team for performing better and better each tournament! I feel that the level of play and communication was a tremendous improvement from the last tournament and I can't wait to see our results as we progress through the rest of the season! Our movement to get passes to target and hustle were great! Also, the timing between our setters and hitters was the best so far!  Offensively and defensively, we are finally on track to take momentum and get some good wins under our belt!

17 A'Sheana

This was a hard tournament for us due to the outcome. During the day, we faced some pretty good teams, and we took a set from a 18s level team. Though we finished last in pool play, we were placed in the 17-division gold bracket with the other 17s team. We fought hard and played well, but we're unable to win. The girls played well the entire day, even though we were missing a player, and those who needed to step up did.

GASPARILLA TOURNAMENT (2/18-2/20)

Team

Tournament Recap

13 Jessica

Fusion has been continuously improving their game since the first tournament! They have successfully been running plays with our middle and outside hitters, we had a few incredible blocks and defense was impeccable this weekend. This team works so well together and never get down on themselves. Fusion has so much potential. We placed 11th this weekend and can’t wait for Beast of the Southeast.

The team's first tournament where they faced consistent competition every match.  This was the best Blaze has played all year.  The defense, blocking and passing was excellent.  Areas of improvement, eliminating unforced errors and lateral movement. Blaze is learning how to compete, and going forward needs to finish between points 20-25.

14 Megan

The Hurricanes really stepped it up and went 2-1 their first day in Tampa, placing us in the top half of the bracket for the weekend. I loved that we tried a lot of new lineups and had a lot of players playing positions they had never tried before. Not only was I happy that players responded cheerfully to change, but I also feel as if the changes will benefit the overall future success of the team. Also, I LOVED the fight I saw from the girls during our second match of the tournament. It was a fight I had not seen from this group yet, and hope to continue to see during future tournaments.

WHAT AN IMPROVMENT!! So excited and proud from this previous weekend with my Bulls. They proved themselves every single day and grew in so many areas that we said we needed to work on. Confidence showed this weekend, teamwork shined, determination was on another level. We were put in some tough situations and my girls finally came together as a team and pulled through some of those tough matches. Monday was a rough start for us in the first set. We got destroyed, we pulled it together and they played on of the best sets I have ever seen. Third set of that match we were sailing through points. It came down to 10-10 and was a battle to 15. Score was 14-13 our way and we had an AMAZING BLOCK and the ref had a delay call and called Maya in the net. Probably the worst call I have ever seen I should have protested. The girls already celebrated and shook hands and the up ref called a net and we had to regroup and fit to the finish. I thought after the ref made that call it was game over for me girls. We struggle with our mental game, but they proved me very wrong. We battled to 19-17 them and we lost. It stung, but we recovered from it and are ready for Denver.

16 Lindsay

Elite kept improving in Tampa with a gold bracket placement and a tie for 5th overall.  We saw a lot of good competition and improved every game.  The weekend was fantastic both on and off the court.  It was a great bonding experience for our team and a lot of fun!  We will work hard over the next few weeks and look forward to Denver next!

17 Michael

Top Notch had a GREAT weekend! We saw some great teams from the Florida region which was great competition for our girls! We went into our final pool play match on Day 2 as the only 17s team still undefeated in the tournament. Unfortunately, Top Notch came up short and ended up competing in Silver on Day 3. The girls had a great first match of the day but then fell short in the Silver Championship game against a great Tampa United Team! The coaches feel like the high competition throughout the weekend has prepared the girls for Beast of the Southeast coming up!

Tournament Recap

12 Chad

Everyone played harder than I could have imagined. Every player showed their determination and worked hard for every point. At the end of the day we came out Champions! Very proud of each and every one of these players and happy to see them get to enjoy the thrill of a hard-fought victory. The great thing is we have more tournaments to come and skills to work on so we conquered this mountain now it’s time to move on to the next challenge.

12 Avery

We had the best weekend we've ever had, going 4-4 in sets! We had a tough loss that kept us from going to the playoffs, but we came back from a large deficit and to only lose by 2 points was awesome and took a hard fight from the girls. We have seen so much improvement and hope to continue to see that throughout the season. All of their hard work is really paying off and they are really starting to execute all of the things that we work on in practice and we are so proud.

13 Miranda

The girls came out stronger this weekend than any other tournament. They gave each game everything they had, and they played smarter than they ever had before! Though we didn't win every game, the way they played improved with each set. Our serving, hitting, and communication skills vastly improved from Frozen Fest to this tournament. We can't wait to see how the girls' performances improve even more through the rest of the season

Team

Tournament Recap

15 Jim

Red Thunder parents were "fan"tastic - getting every player there early on Friday, encouraging the players, and keeping them well-nourished before & during matches. Serving was a little below our target on Saturday but improved nicely on Sunday. The team played their best matches on Sunday defeating the K2 team who had beaten us the day before for the Silver Bracket Championship!

Tournament Recap

15 Ally

This tournament was by far our best one yet and we didn't lose a single set till the second day. We ended up making it to the semifinals which went to three sets and we fought very hard for it but ended up losing in the third set.  This was very hard for us, because we knew that we were the better team and could have won the whole tournament, but we learned a lot and did some really great things as a team and Coach Rachel and I were very proud of the girls!

FROZEN FEST (2/4)

Tournament Recap

14 Danielle

The girls had a great tournament and played well as a team. Overall, we were able to get down rotations, get to base faster, and make more solid contact with the ball. The serving and dropped ball percentage improved from the last tournament and the girls had a great time!

Tournament Recap

14 Alyssa

We had a great weekend at Choo Choo. The girls played really solid for most of the day. The most memorable moment of the day for me was the semi-final game. We played a team that we lost to at Lil Big South, and the girls came out ready to play and they left it all out on the court, and took the match in 2 sets. They didn't let up for the whole game. There is still stuff that the girls need to improve on, but they've already made tremendous improvements.

14 Edward

Team STEEL had a tough time at Choo Choo. Our overall play was hesitant and we lost our Libero, however we showed poise by adjusting to the situation and working through adjustments and coming together as a team. Although it was not our best performance the team enjoyed hanging out as defintiely bonded. Looking forward to our next on. GO STEEL!

ICEBREAKER (2/4-2/5)

Tournament Recap

12 Tom

The Volleycanos are improving.  They played well on Saturday and won their pool.  Sunday, they played in the gold bracket and ended up fourth.

13 Jessica

13-1 had another successful weekend as they were the gold bracket runner ups. 13-1 faced their first competitive weekend that gave all of the girls challenges. The girls learned a lot this weekend and are ready to take on Tampa with a new perspective.

14 Kevin

We were more impressed with the team at the Icebreaker than the Lil Big South, although the records would indicate otherwise.  Blaze is starting to buy into our goals and system.  The setters movement and set selections improved.  The middles saw more sets, and terminated some "A" quicks.  Our outside hitters were swinging high, with a significant reduction in attack errors.  Our back row defense continues to improve, and our rotation on free balls improved.  Goals moving forward will be to improve our serving, coverage on blocks, and now that our outsides are swinging high to work on line shots.  Last but not least, our team ran and terminated our first X play.  :)

14 Megan

This weekend was a big growing weekend for the Hurricanes. We played a lot of tough teams and held our ground with most of them. The girls were playing better together and I saw a lot of individual and team growth. Our goal moving forward to is to finish matches and to work on performing under pressure.

15 Kelsey

Fuego played up in 16 power for the Icebreaker tournament. It was great to see some awesome competition! There are several things that we did very well as a team. As always, there are skills that can continue to improve. We are exctied to see what this team can do this year.

16 Katie

I am VERY proud of my girls this weekend, besides losing the championship match :( We started off strong both days and we hit a road block both days. We would play great our first two matches and the last match we didn't show up all the way. In the finals we were definitely on top, we had technical error with the score table. That rattle us a lot and therefore we lost that first set. Second set we battled again, it came down to who wanted it more. Even though we were all upset I still think we grew from our last tournament and it showed this weekend

17 Michael

Icebreaker was a tough weekend for Top Notch. The girls played hard every game but came up short in the 2nd or 3rd set in most matches. We saw amazing things this weekend but also saw some things to work on :) we are still very excited for what is still to come and can't wait to be in Tampa!

OHIO VALLEY 18's QUALIFIER (2/3-2/6)

Team

Tournament Recap

18 Karlyn

Coming into our first qualifier, 18 Elite was ready to go off a fresh tournament win the week before. Day 1 saw us going 2-1, dropping a tough match to Elite VBTC from Ohio. Coming back ready to roll, we went 3-0 on day 2 and advanced to the gold bracket! On Sunday our first game was a rematch of our day 1 loss and the girls were pumped and ready to get some payback. We won 2-1 then continued on to beat the only undefeated team in the semi-finals! The finals match was a tough loss to a great Palm Beach team, putting us in 2nd place for the tournament and securing a bid to Nationals in Dallas! Couldn't be happier as the girls checked off our biggest goal of the season at our very first qualifier!

FROZEN FEST (1/28)

Tournament Recap

13 Keri

Blitz came out ready to play. The girls were ready to show everyone how hard we had worked on communication and bonding on the court. The girls had an amazing serving percentage of 85%. They served very aggressive. Blitz fought very hard all day to finish first in the tournament. We were so proud of the drive and effort that we witnessed at the tournament. Keep up the hard work! Your a rockstar!

13 Miranda

Our tournament on Saturday went very well. The girls showed a huge amount of improvement from Little Big South. They had many longer rallies, they were getting three touches on almost every ball, their energy was higher, and their serve receive was much better. We split two of our matches and lost two, all of our games were closely scored. We only lost one game by more than five points. The girls fought hard through each game, and I could not be prouder with how they played.

15 Kelly

Team Flash had a great day at Frozen Fest, finishing pool play 7-1 in sets advancing to Bracket Play. They fought hard through a horribly referreed match where all sets went into extra points, pulling it out in the end to advance to the Semi-Finals. They were emaotionally and physically drained when they lost. So proud of them as they left everything on the court during a long day of volleyball.

15 Chase

An early morning start to the day was tough when we played the team that ended up winning our pool. We had a tough pool of great opponents but again really worked on our passing and setting up our offense. We are getting stronger and stronger at our communication and serve receive. The small improvements are proving that we are learning and gaining better skills for our volleyball game.

17 A'Sheana

We had a lot of great playing moments at Frozen Fest. We were finally able to get into stride, and played together and had fun! When facing our toughest opponent we split with them proving to ourselves what we are capable of. Though we did not end the day as we would have like, it was a step in the right direction.

AAU SUPER REGIONAL (1/28-1/29)

Team

Tournament Recap

15 Jim

Red Thunder traveled to Birmingham for it's 1st out of town tournament...an AAU Super Regional. The players continued to bond well as a team, but performance on the court suffered from a combination of stong competition and a drop off in serving efficiency & serve receive. Both of the later will be emphasized in the 4 practices before our next tournament.

Elite fought really hard all weekend long to win the Silver bracket.  There was great competition from all over and we saw some great teams.  We learned a lot from our first tournament and put that into play to finish strong at K2!

RALLY CHALLENGE (1/28-1/29)

Teams

Tournament Recap

12 Tom

We began the tournament with strong play on Saturday and Sunday morning.  A few more wins would have helped us reach our goals.  We will work on improving, so you can look for us to come back even stronger for our next showing. Go Volleycanos!

12 Chad

It goes without saying that we had a great tournament this past weekend. We accomplished allot and came out with some hardware ( Bronze Medals ) to go home with. It was great to see the look on each players faces as they accomplished more than they ever thought they could. Best part was taking the NAVC 12-1 Amanda to 3 sets in our first match, because it showed improvement. Met them at Lil-Big South and got stomped, this time 3 sets, next time...

12 Avery

This weekend we continued to improve, including going to 3 with a team who previously beat us in 2. We played a lot of hard fought games, and didn't always get the outcome we wanted, but we improved so much from the first tournament! We know what to work on, and are ready to come back even better for our next tournament.

13 Kasey

We started off a little rough but once we started communicating more we started to play a lot better. We now know what we need to work on for our next tournament.  There is no doubt in my mind that the grils could win any tournament.  We can only go up from here!!!

18 Karlyn

18 Elite showed up to the Rally Challenge ready to play and it showed, going 6-0 and only dropping 1 set in the finals. This was a great boost to get us ready for our first qualifier and push towards that bid!

LIL' BIG SOUTH (1/14-1/16)

Teams

Tournament Recap

11 Cathy

The Volleynados played great their first tournament.  I am so proud of these girls.  Our first tournament was a 12 power and we made it to Silver bracket.  WE learned a lot and we now have a new focus with our rotation.  They have all set individual goals and team goals and we are working hard every practice to obtain these goals.

12 Tom

The volleycanos played well and made progress towards mastering their positoins and roatations.  With a few less errors and some more wins, they will soon earn their spot in the gold bracket.

12 Chad

We had a great weekend and put out a great effort. There were many "firsts" during this event. For almost everyone this was their very first tournament, club experience, and look at the world of highly competitive volleyball. Despite that lack of experience we managed to come out with a winning record and made it all the way to the GOLD bracket.

12 Avery

Our first tournament went really well, especially considering it was these girls' first club experience! They learned so much about tournaments and volleyball in general. We were so happy to win a game! We saw a lot of growth and are hoping to continue that throughout the season and are excited to see what the rest of the season holds.

13 Jessica

This weekend Fusion competed in their fist tournament of the season. Little Big South is a tough tournament because it is three days long instead of a typical two-day tournament. The girls fought hard all weekend and ended up wining the whole tournament AND going 8-0.

13 Jonathan

The girls did a phenomenal job on having a strong and consistent defense. Fusion worked together, communicated and never got down. The next two goals we have for the team are to start running plays and work on having a serving percentage of 90% or higher. We are so proud of how well the girls played and are really excited to continue to increase their level of play for future tournaments. Great job this weekend Fusion!

13 Kasey

We had a great weekend.  Saturday we stated out a little rough but by sunday the girls were playing great.  We were communicating and using middles to hit and our right sides.  We didn't finish as high as I would of hoped but there are many more tournaments to come and we can only go up from here.

13 Keri

The girls kicked off the season with a great weekend at Little Big South. We won first in our pool the first day. The girls fought hard to earn there way into the gold bracket. We can't wait to see what's in store for us this season! Go Blitz

13 Miranda

Little Big South went really well for us. We really learned our rotations, and progressed throughout the weekend. This was the first tournament for many of the girls, and there was so much energy throughout the weekend. The change from the first day to the last day was incredible, and I am really looking forward to seeing the girls continue to grow throughout the season.

14 Kevin

Excellent start and learning experience for the team.  We went 2-1 in pool play the first day, and 3-0 the second day with an impressive final match that went 3 with a 15-12 deciding set that ended with a stuff block :).  Our expectations were exceeded as the team made it to Gold Semi-Finals, and finished with an overall 5th place finish.  Overall the team served well and played great defense.  Areas of improvement are communication, setting the middle and back row, and taking away our opponents best player or offensive attacks.

14 Megan

This was a weekend full of learning and growth for our team. For a lot of girls this was their first club tournament or first tournament playing in "power." I loved seeing the change from the first day of the tournament to the last day of the tournament. The girls really started to work together, to communicate, and to have fun. I am looking forward to continue to grow throughout the season and I am excited that it is just the beginning.

14 Alyssa

Lil big south was a big weekend for learning. We had ups and downs throughout the weekend. I was very proud of the girls because they had a pretty rough day 2 playing wise, but they decided as a team to let the day go and start fresh the next day and making sure they gave nothing but their best for each other.

14 Edward

This weekend we learned a lot about what it takes to get to the next level and will be using our data to shape our practice approach moving forward in the season.
First I would like mention the elements that we did well with. Our serving was consistent, we were able to play in system (Pass/ set/ Hit) and our communication improved as the tournament progressed.
Things we need to work on. We gave away a lot of points due to passing and hitting errors, it seemed that each match we would go through a stretch where we would give up several points on serve receive, and our ball placement became predictable for the other teams. As we told the girls this weekend, we match up talent wise with the teams we played and once we make the mentioned adjustments, we should expect great things to come. Once again, congratulations to the girls and thank you for your support and snacks this weekend. Can’t wait to get to practice.
GO STEEL!!!

14 Danielle

This LBS tournamnet was a great learning experience for the girls. They were able to grow and learn how to place as a team. Even though we had struggled on the first day, the next two had gotten better with knowing where to go and how to get there. The girls also learned the importance of keeping serves in and knowing where to put the ball. Finally, on day three, they understood what it was like to play and win as a team. Not only did it take skill, but it took celebrating every moment in a game. Overall, it was amazing to see the girls pull through and win their flight on day 3.

15 Kelsey

LBS was a great tournament to start with for Fuego. The first day we were able to take first in our bracket, despite some first tournament jitters, due to some great serving and passing. On the second day Fuego came out with more confidence and played some tougher teams. Fuego fell to a very athletic Rags team. But on the last day on the tournament Fuego was out for revenge and ended up sweeping the same Rags team to be Champions!

15 Davis

LBS was a good starting point for the season. Wahine fought for every set, even that crazy 37-35 set on the second day! Since our first practice, the girls have improved so much as a team. The coaches are looking forward to seeing how far we will go this season!

15 Jim

Red Thunder started out with good effort but struggled against several strong teams on day 1. They regrouped quickly, winning their last 5 matches and Bronze Champions.

15 Kelly

Flash started out flat and we as coaches needed the first match of the tournament to figure out a rotation adjustment. Once that was made, they came together well. We faced challenging teams on Sunday, went 0-3, but the team played well. Bumped down to Silver A bracket on Monday, they played great and pulled out three hard fought wins for the Silver A Championship. Having been down 9-14 in the final set of the Championship match, they fought back to win it!! They began to show us some of the potential Coach Ally & I see in them as individual players and as a team. These girls have such heart, fight, and drive on the court.

15 Chase

Vipers have improved tremendously as a team since the first practice. The second day of LBS allowed for the team to come together and really begin playing their volleyball game. While we didn't win them all, the team really improved in setting up plays and making things happen on the court.

16 Katie

The bulls had some moments of greatness at Lil Big South. We had a pattern of going to a third game in each match and we would battle until the very end but come up short. This showed that we could battle with teams but we need to learn how to finish. Our weaknesses were exposed and I'm okay with that because it shows what we need to work on for the next tournament.

16 Lindsay

Elite had a rough first day against very good competition.  We came out sronger Day 2 and played more like a team.  Day 3 we started really fighting as a team and ended up winning Bronze.  Elite learned from their mistakes and felt more comfortable playing together by the end of the tournament! Way to pick it up!

17 Michael

Top Notch had a GREAT START TO THE SEASON! We ended with a 7-1 record for the weekend a 2nd place finish in Gold! The Coaches are extremely proud of Top Notch and can't wait to the see their growth over the season!

17 A'Sheana

LBS is a great tournament to start with, it gave our team a chance to see a large tournament with a lot of teams. We were still working through our rotation so we couldnt quite get our stride, but we greatly improved throughout the week!

18 Karlyn

18 Elite had a good start to our tournament season at LBS. We went 5-1 in pool play and advanced to the gold bracket. Day 3 brought some tough lessons but the girls showed many signs of greatness for thew season ahead! Looking forward to working towards a bid to Nationals!
