Frequently Asked Questions

Open Gym is offered to current Cobb Atlanta club (Travel, ATL, & Premier)  players throughout the Club Season on most Friday evenings from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Cobb Atlanta.

Open Gym is designed for players to be able to work on skills that they choose or play pick up volleyball games.   There are no coaches or parents allowed in the gym area with the players.  There is a staff person on-site to supervise, and parents are welcome to watch from upstairs.  

Players do not have to sign up in advance, but the must sign in when they arrive at the gym. Open Gym attendance also goes towards your teams' points in the Points Chase.

Open Gym is not mandatory or even expected, it is purely offered as an opportunity for athletes to play the game they love.

The practice days are Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Sunday's are typically used for clinics and for our ATL Practices. Below are the times we use each day- 

Possible Sunday Practice Times: 1:00-3:00, 3:00-5:00, 5:00-7:00 and 7:00-9:00

Possible Monday Practice Times: 5:30-7:30 and 7:30-9:30

Possible Tuesday Practice Times: 5:30-7:30 and 7:30-9:30

Possible Wednesday Practice Times: 5:30-7:30 and 7:30-9:30

Possible Thursday Practice Times: 5:30-7:30 and 7:30-9:30

An example of an ATL Practice schedule would be on Sunday from 3:00-5:00 and Wednesday from 5:30-7:30

An example of a Travel Practice Schedule would be Tuesday from 5:30-7:30 and Thursday from 7:30-9:30

* If your daughter is on a 13 or under team your practice will always be 5:30-7:30

* As a reminder each team will come through Cobb Atlanta once a week and then practice either at McCleskey or Lassiter for the other day of practice. 

Playing time on each club team is different based on the level of each team.


Red Level - On a red level team, playing time is not guaranteed. In fact, playing time is not even discussed. However, your coach may have a conversation with a player regarding the skills she needs to work on.

Black Level - On a black level team, playing time is fair (not equal) play during pool play. During playoffs/bracket play, the most competitive and strategic line-up should be used to try to win.

Blue Level - On a blue level team, play is fair (not equal) during pool play and playoffs/bracket play.



Commitment Night:

  • 14s and Under: Late October after tryouts
  • 15s and Up: Early November after tryouts


Practices Begin:  The week following the 15s and up Commitment Night. We will take Thanksgiving week off along with Christmas Break. However, there will be options for Holiday Practices, these practices are up to your coaches. 

Regionals (End of Regular season for most teams): Spring 2018

Team names will consist of age + coaches name. Ex. 14 John

Cobb Atlanta will have 3 levels of teams, based on level of competition and travel schedule. Our ATL teams are also classified as a Black or Blue level team based on their playing time expectations. 

They are as follows: 

Red- National Level Team playing in National Qualifiers traveling Nationaly to play. These teams will also be a playing in either USA, American or  Power at all events. Teams will finish season at National Level Tournament, either AAU Tournament or USAV Nationals. 

Black- Regional Level Team playing at power and/or club tournaments depending on the level of skill. All black level teams will not play in the same level or same exact tournaments. Tournament schedules and divisions are decided upon on an individual team basis and what is best for the team.

Blue- Regional Level Team playing at club level tournaments.



Each travel team (Red, Black, Blue) is assigned at least 2 coaches for a smaller player-coach ratio.   Our ATL teams will have 2 coach for each team as well, and have a lead coach for the ATL program.  Our Premier team has 1 coach per team. 

What are the details for the Premier Club Teams?

Premier teams are a newer addition to our club teams which focuses on the most developmental group of players. 

Where do the Premier Teams practice?

We will practice at the same locations that other club teams practice. 

Are there tryouts for the Premier Teams?

We will hold tryouts for the premier teams separately from other club teams after the ATL Tryouts.

What is the purpose of Premier Teams?

The goal of these teams is to transition our players into the advanced nature of club volleyball. We will teach terminology such as rotations and techniques that players may not have been previously familiar with. 

Cobb Atlanta's NEXT/YMCA league is open to boys from 7-18 years old.  We only offer club teams for girls, but if you are looking for boys club volleyball - we encourage you to check out Southern Storm (a boys club in Atlanta).

Each Cobb Atlanta club team practices will practice at least once per week at our facility, the CAJ Center (1880 West Oak Pkwy Ste. 218 Marietta GA 30062).   Other practice locations include McCleskey MS (4080 Maybreeze Rd, Marietta GA 30066) and Lassiter HS (2601 Shallowford Rd, Marietta GA 30066).  We occasionally use other venues as needed.

The number of tournaments depends on each team. See the pricing breakdown for more info.

Each team either Travel or ATL will have at least 2 practices a week. However, 13-1, 14-1, 14-2, 15-1, 15-2, 16-1, 16-2, 17-1 and 18-1 will have 3 practices a week on a non tournament week. If there is inter club scurnnage schedule for the weekend that will take place of your 3rd practice for the week. Each Travel team will also be required to attend 2 fitness sessions a week as well. The Travel teams that practice 3 days a week will be required to attend Fitness three times a week throughout the entire season. ATL teams are encouraged to attend fitness sessions either in the gym or at home, but it is not required.
